15 Apr: Prof. Akilagpa Sawyerr Honoured as WACREN Launches New Leadership and Advocacy Award

Prof. Akilagpa Sawyerr (FGA), renowned Ghanaian academic and former President of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, was honoured on 10th April 2025 at the 10th Annual Conference of the West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN) in Dakar. He received the inaugural edition of a landmark award celebrating leadership and advocacy in advancing research and education across the continent. The award, which now bears his name, was created to recognize his exceptional contributions to higher education policy and developing digital research infrastructure in Africa. His legacy continues to shape academic and scientific progress across the region.

03 Apr: A Master of Arts and Science: Professor Ladé Wosornu Celebrated At 88

Prof. Ladé Wosornu, FGA, a distinguished Ghanaian surgeon, poet, and academic, known for his exceptional contributions to both the medical and literary fields has been honoured for his exceptional global contributions to literature, arts, and science. The celebration, held on World Theatre Day at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) Secretariat on March 27, 2025, also marked the recent occasion of his 88th birthday.

29 Mar: GAAS Paves the Way for a National Science and Technology Centre (STC) in Ghana

The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) has successfully concluded a high-level meeting with key stakeholders to finalize plans for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Science and Technology Centre (STC) in Ghana. This initiative aims to bolster science literacy and innovation through inclusive, hands-on learning experiences for diverse communities. The meeting took place at the GAAS Secretariat on 26th March 2025, in Accra.

26 Feb: GAAS hosts 58TH J.B. Danquah Memorial Lecture

28 Nov: GAAS LEADS THE CHARGE: Transforming Higher Education for Africa’s Future

The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) has successfully concluded its two-year Higher Education Project with an international conference held on November 28-29, 2024, at its Kwame Nkrumah Auditorium in Accra. The project, funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York with supplementary support from the Bank of Ghana brought together key stakeholders to address the challenges facing higher education in Africa. The theme for the conference was, “Transforming Universities for 21st Century Africa”.
