The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education paid a working visit to the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) on Wednesday, 8th July 2026, at the Academy’s Secretariat in Accra. The visit provided an opportunity for the Committee to engage with leadership of the Academy on its mandate, programmes, contributions to national development and areas for enhanced collaboration. The Committee was led by its Chairman, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, and was received by the President of the Academy, Emerita Professor Isabella Akyinbah Quakyi, FGA.

The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) Public Forum is one of the flagship programmes of the Academy (GAAS), convened to promote informed, evidence-based dialogue on issues of national importance. The 2026 edition, held from 1st–3rd June 2026 at the Academy’s Secretariat in Accra, focused on the theme, “Citizens and Democratic Consolidation in Ghana: Rights, Obligations and Duties.”
Prof. Samuel A. Debrah, FGA, President of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, has called for postgraduate medical education to be recognized as a strategic national investment. Delivering his Inaugural Lecture in the Sciences of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) on Thursday, 18 June 2026, he said strengthening specialist medical training is critical to improving healthcare delivery and advancing Ghana’s long-term development.
