09 May: Dr. Nii Narku Quaynor Advocates Scientific Innovation and Digital Independence for Africa

Dr. Nii Narku Quaynor, FGA, has called on Ghana and Africa to invest more heavily in scientific innovation, computational sciences and local technological capacity to secure the continent’s digital future and reduce dependence on foreign technological systems.

He made the call while delivering the 2026 Inaugural Lecture in the Sciences of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) held on Thursday, 7 May 2026 at the Academy’s Secretariat in Accra.

10 Apr: Ghana’s first female physicist with a PhD: Prof. Elizabeth Andam calls for greater investment in science

Professor Elizabeth Aba Bentil Andam (FGA), Ghana’s first female physicist with a PhD, is calling for stronger investment in science to create more opportunities for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Speaking in an interview with the Association of African Universities on impact stories on April 4th 2026, Prof. Andam stressed that funding, well equipped laboratories, and strong support for teachers are essential to building scientific capacity. She described funding as an essential vitamin for scientific growth and noted that it plays a key role in helping more young people, especially women, to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

19 Mar: Dr. Nana Susubribi Krobea Asante Honoured with Citation of Honour at Lancaster University Ghana

Dr. Nana Susubribi Krobea Asante has been awarded a Citation of Honour in recognition of his outstanding service, sacrifice, and enduring contribution to society.
The honour was conferred at the 2026 edition of Time with the Legend, held at Lancaster University Ghana on 17th March 2026, and organised in collaboration with the Transnational Academic Group.

16 Mar: Ghana needs a Breast Centre of Excellence — Prof. Clegg-Lamptey

Ghana must urgently establish a Breast Centre of Excellence to respond to the rising burden of breast cancer, Professor Joe-Nat Clegg-Lamptey (FGA), a leading breast surgeon and Professor of Surgery at the University of Ghana Medical School, has stated. Widely recognised as one of Ghana’s leading voices on breast cancer awareness, treatment, and policy advocacy, he warned that the incidence of breast cancer in the country is projected to increase and is likely to worsen if decisive action is not taken.

23 Feb: GAAS hosts 59th J.B. Danquah Memorial Lectures on Africa–China relations

The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) successfully hosted the 59th edition of the J.B. Danquah Memorial Lecture, a notable annual event held in honour of Dr. Joseph Boakye Danquah, a founding member of the Academy. This year’s keynote speaker, Professor Lloyd G. Adu Amoah, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana and Founding Director of the Centre for Asian Studies, delivered a compelling three-day lecture series under the theme “Africa–China Relations: Partnership, Peonage, Pawnage and Possibilities.”

02 Feb: GhYA deepens GAAS collaboration at landmark induction ceremony

The Ghana Young Academy (GhYA) held its 10th Annual General Meeting and 9th Induction Ceremony on Thursday, 29 January 2026, at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) Secretariat in Accra. The ceremony marked a historic milestone for the Academy, recording its largest induction cohort with 23 new members and hosting its first in person induction ceremony since 2021.
