Prof. Pius Thomas Kumah Agbenorku
You are a University Professor at KNUST and an Honorary Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at KATH, with over 30 years of surgical and teaching experience. As a pioneer in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Ghana, you have contributed in diverse ways to advancing the specialty nationwide. You have performed and continue to perform and teach numerous life-transforming surgeries across Ghana and Africa.
You have served on several boards in this field and played both national and international roles to enhance global Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In recognition of your contributions, you were appointed Honorary Professor of Global Plastic Surgery by the University of Utah School of Medicine, Salt Lake City, USA.
You are a Foundation Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) and currently serve as Vice-President for the Division of Surgeons. Previously, you served as Chairman and Chief Examiner for the Faculty of Surgery and Sub-Specialties, as well as a member and later Chairman of the Faculty. You are also a Member of the GCPS Academic Board and the GCPS Council.
With several years of teaching experience, you have trained medical students, residents, and colleagues. You contribute to curriculum development for medical schools and residency training in specialized fields of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
You played a pivotal role in establishing the Burns Unit and the Burns Intensive Care Unit (BICU) at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and became the Founding Head of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within the Department/Directorate of Surgery at KNUST/KATH.
You are an active Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS), a trainer and Examiner, and have served on the Faculty of Surgery Board and as a WACS Council Member.
As a prolific researcher, your interests include Breast Developmental Anomalies, Orofacial Clefts, Burns and their sequelae, Buruli ulcers, and Plastic Surgery Education. You have completed over 250 research works, including 114 peer-reviewed publications, 12 monographs, 24 book chapters, and numerous presentations at national and international scientific conferences.
You have supervised and mentored many students and postgraduate trainees through their theses and dissertations, reviewed numerous journal articles, and serve on the editorial boards and committees of several publications.
