Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann Joins the Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship

A Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS), Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann FGA, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) in the United Kingdom. Her election was announced on 23rd September, 2025 at the Academy’s Annual General Meeting.

A Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS), Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann FGA, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) in the United Kingdom. Her election was announced on 23rd September, 2025 at the Academy’s Annual General Meeting.

Professor Effah Kaufmann, who serves as chairperson of the fundraising Committee of GAAS is one of only two Africa-based academics elected this year. She joins seventy-two other distinguished engineers and innovators from around the world.

Her election recognises her exceptional leadership in engineering education and research, as well as her influence in advancing national and international conversations on science, technology, and innovation.

Beyond academia, Professor Effah Kaufmann is widely recognised as the Quiz Mistress of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), a position she has held since 2006. Through this role, she has become one of Ghana’s most visible advocates for STEM education, inspiring generations of students to pursue careers in science and engineering.

The Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering is among the highest honours in the profession. It is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding impact through pioneering innovation, advancing knowledge, and applying engineering to improve lives. Fellows are drawn from academia, industry, and government, and contribute expert advice to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Professor Kaufmann will be formally admitted into the Fellowship at a special ceremony in London on 18th November 2025, where she will sign the roll book of the Academy.
