We hosted 65 enthusiastic pupils from Grades 1 to 3 of Adormens Preparatory School at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) Secretariat in Accra. The visit, which took place on Thursday, 26th June 2025, formed part of an educational excursion designed to spark curiosity and foster a love for learning among young minds.
The pupils, accompanied by their teachers and school administrators, were warmly received and taken on a guided tour of the Academy’s premises. They were introduced to the Academy’s mission, the importance of science and the arts in national development, and the inspiring work of Ghanaian scholars.
Professor Frederick Ato Armah, FGA, a Fellow of GAAS, was present to interact with the pupils. He spoke to them about the importance of studying hard, staying curious, and believing in their potential to contribute meaningfully to society. In a moment that surprised and impressed the team, several of the children identified pressing environmental issues in Ghana, such as corruption, illegal mining (galamsey), water pollution, and land degradation. This demonstrated a remarkable level of awareness for their ages.
The visit was coordinated by Mrs. Deborah Sarkodie, Programmes Officer for the Sciences Section at GAAS, who took the pupils through a presentation about GAAS tailored to their level of understanding. She also encouraged them to remain inquisitive, ask questions, and explore the world around them.
This visit aligns with the Academy’s broader mission of promoting the pursuit, advancement, and dissemination of knowledge. By engaging pupils at an early age, we demonstrate our commitment to nurturing future generations of scholars, scientists, artists and thinkers.
The Executive Secretary of GAAS, Mr. Daniel Hormeku, was also present to lend his support and welcome the school on behalf of the Academy.
We remain committed to inspiring and empowering the next generation through educational outreach and continue to serve as a beacon of learning for all ages.
