Prof. Atinuke Olusola Adebanji
You are an accomplished statistician, educator, and research leader with a career spanning over two decades. You joined Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2009 as a Senior Lecturer from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, and in 2018, became Ghana’s first female Professor of Statistics.
Your research focuses on applied multivariate methods, statistical modeling of public health outcomes, multidisciplinary collaboration, and promoting statistical literacy. You have published extensively on health data distributions, classification, pattern recognition, aging, maternal and newborn health, and transportation-related health impacts. Your work appears in journals such as PLOS ONE, BMJ, Heliyon, Springer, Hindawi, and Taylor & Francis, among others. With over 80 publications and numerous keynote addresses, your contributions continue to shape policy and practice across sectors.
You serve as Ghana’s Lead Principal Investigator for the DAAD Competence Network in Mathematical Epidemiology and the Volkswagen Foundation project on Biomathematics and Biostatistics in Genomics and Epidemiology. You have also led USAID-funded initiatives like TEACH and programs supporting female scientists in data analysis.
You are an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), a Representative Council Member of the International Biometric Society (IBS), and serve on its Search Committee for Executive Officers. You represent Ghana in the Caucus for Women in Statistics and Data Science and contribute to global statistical committees including those of the IMU and IBS.
You hold a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Ibadan and an M.Phil. in Public Health from KNUST. You are a recipient of prestigious fellowships from OWSD and Mujeres Por África.
