Prof Isabella Quakyi receives The Clara Southmayd Ludlow Awards (Demo)

 

Prof Isabella Quakyi has been named the 2019 recipient of The Clara Southmayd Ludlow Award by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH). The Clara Southmayd Ludlow Medal is a prestigious award which was created in 2017 by ASTMH in honor of Clara Southmayd Ludlow (1852-1924), a female scientist, who through her scientific zeal and tenacity, battled the odds of age, gender, and skepticism of women in the sciences to advance the understanding of tropical medicine.

Prof Isabella Quakyi was awarded this award for her inspirational and pioneering spirit, whose work over the years represented success despite obstacles and also her contribution to advancing the field of tropical medicine.

The Award was conferred on her at the 68th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) at the Gaylord Hotels and Convention Centre, Washington DC, before an audience of its 5,000 researchers in Tropical Medicine and Global Health.
